Human   Rights   Tattoo

Human   rights   crawl   under   the   skin

‘All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.’ This is how the Universal Declaration of Human Rights begins. The art collective Tilburg CowBoys wants to tattoo this entire declaration letter by letter. Quite a task, as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights consists of 6773 characters. That means 6773 people need to go under the needle.

The ‘Human Rights Tattoo project’ is an initiative by artist and Tilburg CowBoy Sander van Bussel. He aims to raise awareness and highlight the importance of human rights with the project. We are contributing to the campaign and providing the design. Van Bussel came up with the idea following the murder of fellow artist Stephen Nyash in Nairobi (2012). This story also touched us, and that is why we are voluntarily participating in the project.
